Validation culture describes a social norm where individuals are expected to affirm others' subjective experiences. The duty to "hold space" for feelings is prioritized over expressing criticism.

The Muslim Brotherhood is a transnational Islamist organization founded in Egypt that seeks to shape society and government according to Islamic principles, often through political participation, social services (e.g. welfare), and grassroots organizing. The Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan established a partisan political wing, the Islamic Action Front (IAF). 

Jordan is a constitutional monarchy where the King holds significant executive powers, including appointing the government, while an elected parliament shares limited legislative authority within a controlled multiparty system. In recent years, the IAF's popularity soared in Jordan, culminating in the IAF winning a plurality of seats in the legislature following the 2024 general elections. The Jordanian monarchy responded by nominating an alternate Prime Minsiter, criminalizing the Broterhood's extra-political activities and recruitment centers, and arresting members suspected of insurgent planning.
